The Hudson Palisades & Donnelly Memorial Park

The Hudson Palisades

The Palisades are a 20 mile long stretch of steep cliffs along the west side of the lower Hudson River that run from Jersey City, NJ to Nyack, New York.  They are among the most dramatic geologic features in the greater New York City area providing a vista of the NYC skyline.

This photo was taken a few weeks back at the lookout point that connects New Jersey to New York about 12 miles north of West New York, NJ.

We live between the river and the palisades which means we have to drive up approximately 300 feet via switch backs or steep inclines to get over the Palisades to get to work, shopping, church, etc.  The further north you go toward New York the height increased to over 540 feet.

Our building is in front of the building you see here.

You can either hike the trail directly behind our condo or walk a quarter mile down the road to a stair case that gets you to the top of the palisades.  At the top you'll find Donnelly Memorial Park and a great view of Manhattan.

Donnelly Memorial Park

In addition to a beautiful view you'll find a wonderful park with a playground, tennis courts, and pavilion. No wonder many young families choose to live in New Jersey along the water.  Rent is also half of what you'd pay to live in Manhattan.

Note the cruise ships that line the edge of the city for the weekend.  We see Norwegian, Carnival and Royal Caribbean pull in every weekend.

The waterfront where we live is still under development.  You can see the cranes building yet another condo complex.  Less than a decade ago most of New Jersey's waters edge was warehouse.   Our building was built in 2006.
