Backpacking Philly

We took the train to Philadelphia, PA to see Liberty Hall and the Liberty Bell.

On Friday night we decided to head to Philly for the weekend.
We found a hotel online at Independence Park packed a backpack and headed out the door Saturday morning.

A 3 hour train ride later we began our 36 hour, 22 mile hike around Philadelphia.
Philly City Hall.  The architecture is amazing.

Inside Independence Hall

This is the actual room inside Independence Hall where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were both signed.  Thirteen tables for the thirteen original states.

Signing these documents was considered an act of treason toward England and punishable by death. The park ranger in the photo was an outstanding storyteller. He made Mike and me both want to read up on our American History. It's fascinating!

George Washington sat in this chair of The Rising Sun (note the pattern at the crown of the chair)
when the U.S. Constitution was signed.

Ben Franklin.  2,000 Keys were collected by school children and attached to this sculpture.  We also went to the
Ben Franklin Museum.  I had no idea good old Ben had invented so many things...including Wind Surfing.

The home of Betsy Ross.  We took an audio tour of the home where Betsy Ross worked and lived when
she sewed the first American flag.

This is her room where she would secretly work on the flag

You can't go to Philly without making your way to the Museum District to the Philadelphia Museum of Art
and running the stairs like Rocky!

We weren't the only dorks doing the Rocky pose.

The architecture is this city is spectacular.

It was a wonderful weekend filled with history, laughter, and lots of......walking!!!

We highly recommend the trip.
