Stronger Than The Storm

After the devastation of Hurricane Sandy up and down the New Jersey coast, there was a sense of urgency to open the shore towns and be ready for business for Memorial Day Weekend.

A promotional campaign launched in New Jersey, Stronger Than The Storm, as a tribute to the strength of the community and commitment to rebuild.

A storm system caused our flight to Minnesota for the weekend to be cancelled so we packed up the car and Mindy and headed to the shore to walk the board walk.

When we arrived at Seaside Heights, one of the communities hardest hit by the storm we found Gov. Chris Christie on site participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony.  I found out later that my sister Carol saw me on TV in Sacramento as did my sister-in-law Julie in Minnesota.  So much for my 15 minutes of fame.

It was fun to be a part of the re-opening of the shore towns and boardwalks, however there is still a lot of damage and cleanup needed.  Thanks to everyone around the country that supported the people of New Jersey and the cleanup efforts that continue on 7 months after that terrible storm Halloween weekend 2012.

Of course no trip to the beach is complete without salt water taffy!
