Ground Zero, NYC

What a great weekend.  It started with my good friend Karolyn coming to visit us at our new home on the Hudson.  We had such a blast sight seeing, eating ice cream on the Riverwalk, and staying up late talking and catching up on life.

Self portrait...haha!

In the background note the new One World Trade building.  This is the new building built near ground zero registering in at 1776 feet...symbolic to America's birth.

At ground zero cascading falls drop in where both buildings originally sat with waterfall flowing downward...

and the names of those lost engraved on the railing around the top...

the museum is not yet open, but the "Survivor Tree" is very popular.  This variation of a Pear tree was cut off to 4ft. in height when the buildings fell.  It was transported and transplanted at an arboretum.
It was then hit hard again and uprooted during Hurricane Sandy.  Now named The Survivor Tree is has been transplanted once again at ground zero as a symbol to the strength of our people, New Yorkers and our Nation.

The gift store at ground zero carries merchandise with Pear Leaves as the survivor icon...jewelry, coaters, t-shirt, and so on.
